Following a noteworthy career in magazine, curriculum, book and Bible publishing, Dean Merrill is now concentrating on independent editorial work. Some of his projects are solo writing, many are collaborations with well-known personalities, and still others involve overall directing of complex editorial projects.
His international experience came primarily during his seven years (1997-2004) as vice president of publishing at International Bible Society (now Biblica), where he developed and mentored Bible publishing start-ups. His travels have taken him to 51 countries of the world.
Further back in time, Dean Merrill guided eight magazines simultaneously at Focus on the Family; developed magazine features and book spin-offs at Leadership Journal (CTi); was the general editor of David C. Cook’s “LifeStyle” curriculum for young adults and then became executive editor of curriculum for Cook.
Within the Christian publishing industry, he was elected president of Evangelical Press Association (EPA) for a term (1985-87) and served as a board member of Evangelical Christian Publishers Association. He has personally mentored Christian book and magazine publishers in Kenya and India.
His education includes a bachelor of theology from Chicago Bible College and a master of arts in journalism from Syracuse University. He and his wife, Grace, live in Colorado Springs; they have three married children and 12 grandchildren (10 biological, 2 adopted).
